Having a custom deck added to their home is something many homeowners think about. These areas are wonderful for entertaining or for just relaxing. Covered Deck

The most common idea to incorporate into your residential deck design is a covered deck. By having a covered deck, you are offering a space that can be used during most weather conditions. You can also add hanging screens to keep bugs away during the summer and to reduce rain or wind in the area. Covered decks offer a large amount of shade and a comfortable place to relax and entertain. Covered decks also give you the option of installing ceiling fans suitable for outside living spaces. 

Storage Benches

Built-in benches are a feature of many deck designs. These benches offer more sitting space and even decor space. You can take them a step further and have the deck designer make the built-in benches into storage benches. This can be done with a lifting seat that allows you to store cushions or other items you use regularly outside. The storage benches still work well as seating, but now you can maximize the space and reduce the clutter that may appear outside. 

Safety Gate

If you choose railings on your deck design, you may want to upgrade them to be a bit safer for pets and small children. You can do this by having your contractor install a safety gate. The lock on the gate can be fashioned to make sure only an adult can open it easily. This allows your small children to be safe as they play on the deck and allows your pets to remain safe and not run off while you enjoy your outdoor sitting area.
