Construction and Contractors: All in a Day's Work

Can you imagine being a contractor? You start you morning by picking up supplies at the local building store. You drop off those supplies at one job site, and then you drive to another job site where you spend four hours mudding drywall. As that dries, you make calls to some of your suppliers, and then you meet with a client about a new job across town. As evening rolls in, you drive back to the other construction site and sand down some of that drywall. If this sound like a fun day to you, then you've stumbled on the right blog! This is a blog about construction, and you'll fit right in.

Ideas For Your Custom Deck Design

Having a custom deck added to their home is something many homeowners think about. These areas are wonderful for entertaining or for just relaxing. The issue with some standard designs is that they miss the attributes you may want for your entertaining and family needs. This lack of attributes can lead you to seek out a custom deck design. Here are some ideas to incorporate into your residential deck design to make the most out of the space.

Covered Deck

The most common idea to incorporate into your residential deck design is a covered deck. By having a covered deck, you are offering a space that can be used during most weather conditions. You can also add hanging screens to keep bugs away during the summer and to reduce rain or wind in the area. Covered decks offer a large amount of shade and a comfortable place to relax and entertain. Covered decks also give you the option of installing ceiling fans suitable for outside living spaces.

Storage Benches

Built-in benches are a feature of many deck designs. These benches offer more sitting space and even decor space. You can take them a step further and have the deck designer make the built-in benches into storage benches. This can be done with a lifting seat that allows you to store cushions or other items you use regularly outside. The storage benches still work well as seating, but now you can maximize the space and reduce the clutter that may appear outside.

Safety Gate

If you choose railings on your deck design, you may want to upgrade them to be a bit safer for pets and small children. You can do this by having your contractor install a safety gate. The lock on the gate can be fashioned to make sure only an adult can open it easily. This allows your small children to be safe as they play on the deck and allows your pets to remain safe and not run off while you enjoy your outdoor sitting area.

These are just a few of the ideas you can incorporate into your custom deck design. If you are open to more ideas, discuss options with your contractor. They can determine what would best suit your needs and draft a residential deck design that works for you. Once you decide on a design for your deck, you can schedule the installation appointment.
